Jasper and Shaela - BFF's

Having dogs and cats in the same house with your bird can be a challenge. With a little patience and training you can teach them to at least tolerate each other and sometimes they can even become friends. We got lucky with Shalea - she is the friendliest dog that ever existed and the minute she saw Jasper she wanted to to make friends - right now! Jasper, after years of being thwarted in his efforts to make friends with the cat, was only too happy to oblige. 

When we first got Jasper we also had a grumpy old cat named Balor. Balor caught on pretty quickly that he wasn't allowed to eat Jasper but he never did warm up to the bird. Since Balor was also a lazy cat we never had any real worries about Jasper's safety so it all worked out.

This type of training does not work for all pets but it should at least help you keep the pets under control when they do have to be close to each other.

Meet Japser

This is from an older video I did for my beginner cooking channel  to introduce people to Jasper. He spends a lot of time in the kitchen with us so we've trained him to stay away from the stove and taken other measures to make sure he can visit the kitchen safely.

I'm baaaaack

Jasper is now 5 and he's doing great. We definitely learned a lot about him over the last while and it's long past time to revive this blog so we can share his adventures.

We recently bought a new video camera (yay for pre-christmas sales!) so without any further fuss I am going to wander off and upload what we have so far. Be warned that we are still playing around and getting used to using the camera and Jasper is still getting used to being in front of it.
